Fayetteville was the state capital in 1786, 1789, 1790, and 1793, when Raleigh became the permanent state capital in 1794. For several years during and after the Revolutionary War there was no capital, and the General Assembly met in various locations. Second Empire is a really nice restaurant housed in a historic Victorian era house on Hillsborough Street. Unfortunately it was a short reprise, so we were only able to get a couple before heading back over to Whiskey Kitchen where the group had drinks and appetizers and socialized until it was time for their reservations at Second Empire. The rain did let up momentarily, so I was able to accompany the bride and groom over to Nash Square to take some portraits. Initially they said they didn’t have any available tables, so we were brainstorming what to do in the interim, but after explaining our situation they sat the group in a cozy little nook. We crossed the street to Whiskey Kitchen. Unfortunately during the ceremony rain did start coming down pretty hard. The room used for elopements is very nice compared to some other courthouses. Despite running a little behind, the Justice Center was very accommodating, and once everyone arrived, we were called right in. When we first arrived the weather seemed to be cooperating.Ĭurrently Wake County is requiring appointments, it seems to be helping things run smoothly, and reduces the wait time as compared to walk-ins.
